Gyrus story
ACT I
An unknown and seemingly mentally ill man is trapped in a room in a strange house, where he has been for an unknown period of time. The room is adorned with strange art, the ceiling is covered with strips of paper in a spiral. In his possession is a worn photo of his home. The only thing he knows is that he wants to go home. This man spends his time creating the surreal art and drawings. He is periodically subjected to visual and aural stimuli from an unknown source that seems to trigger the presence of inexplicable phenomena in the form of strange visions and visual manifestations.
One morning, after a particularly ferocious session of stimuli the night before, the man awakens inexplicably dressed in a uniform bearing the logo of a powerful corporation known as Vyrys (www.vyrys.com). In a renewed urge to escape after the reappearance of the stimuli, the man discovers an exit from the room hidden behind a tower of video monitors.
ACT II
Having successfully escaped the room, the man, identified as 8477447 by his uniform, begins his search for home. He crosses a desert landscape that reveals a world in semi-apocalypse. Meanwhile, another man whose face we do not see,and the apparent source of the room's stimuli, monitors his progress across the desert via surveillance cameras. He also performs research via analyzing tape recordings and scanning footage, looking for evidence of a new spectrum of energy, possibly from another dimension of reality.
As 8477447 tries to find his way home he has flashbacks at the ruins of a research facility (Vyrys) and begins to harness the light and dark side of energy that comes from a realm called the Shadotecture. He realizes that the manifestations in the room were not happening to him but coming from him. Meanwhile, the mysterious researcher has discovered that human sentiment, good or bad, has caused a rift between the physical universe and the Shadotecture. Human bitterness is manifesting itself physically in a destructive way, thus the apocalyptic environment.
8477447 understands his power and his evolution as night falls. A musical sequence called The Wraithwaltz, inspired by Busby Berkeley, shows the scope of the situation on a global scale.
ACT III
8477447 finds his way out of the desert and into a neighborhood. He gradually finds his way to a house that he believes is his home. He enters and explores the house, finding it empty and also finding examples of his artwork that also reflect the surrounding environment. As he explores the living room we see that the house is not empty, and that a man, apparently 8477447's twin, is following him through the house.
Sensing he is being followed, 8477447 works his way towards the back of the house. Trapped in a foyer, he finds he is able to access only a single door. He opens the door to find that it was the room where he began. His apparent tormentor and the source of the stimuli, his twin brother, was actually trying to help him evolve and harness the energy of the Shadotecture. Unlike before, however, the paintings in the room and the strange papers on the ceiling were replaced by the actual architecture in the distance and an actual vortex in the sky as the barrier between the physical universe and the Shadotecture continues to break down.
8477447 spiritually projects through the gyrus into the Shadotecture and completes his evolution, but into good or bad, we do not know. We then see 8477447 in isolation in an undisclosed military installation. Researchers are discussing what to call him and at this moment we know his name: Gyrus.
Note: The word "Gyrus" has several meaning in the film:
1. The part of the brain that enables 8477447's evolution, as in fusiform gyrus.
2. The circuit of leaving home and coming back.
3. The circuit of realizing that he is running away not from a physical place but from himself, from his destiny.
4. The portal in the sky, the titular Gyrus.
5. My real life. By completing this film I have come full circle and matched my evolution with my ability and destiny, just as 8477447 does in the film.
