Gyrus Feature Film Reveals New Reality, Puts Contributors in Film
Eric Chamberlain, filmmaker, designer and composer, raises funds independently to write, direct and produce his debut feature film, Gyrus.
February 7 2017, Albuquerque, NM -- Independent filmmaker Eric Chamberlain is going online to fund his debut feature film, Gyrus, a drama about the convergence of biological, technological and spiritual evolution. With the film industry stagnant, short on fresh ideas and unable to risk large sums of money going off the beaten path, funding independent films such as Gyrus is more important than ever. Well-known crowd-funding nexus Kickstarter will be ground zero for funding Gyrus.
As many know, Kickstarter has a finite window for raising funds. The fundraising period for Gyrus will be a short 30 days, ending March 7. Kickstarter is all-or-nothing; unmet goals mean zero dollars for creators. With a funding goal of $200,000, funding Gyrus will be a challenging but worthwhile task.
Chamberlain says that producing Gyrus is important because it will be a challenging film that reflects both the light and darkness of humanity. “As the main characters learn more about themselves and about the true nature of humanity, I hope that the audience will see themselves in them.” In fact, one of the Kickstarter rewards is literally adding the images and voices of those funding the film, placing them directly in the phantasmagoric and surreal world of Gyrus, even giving them a film credit.
Chamberlain’s professional experience as a designer, music producer and writer spans over twenty years, and includes awards for design and music production, some fifteen albums, various written articles and a self-help book he wrote for creatives. “I wanted to give the wisdom of all my experience, the good and the bad, the failures and victories, to less-experienced professionals so that they would have the benefit of not learning the hard way.”
Gyrus is, in fact, a culmination of Chamberlain’s decades of experience in graphics, art direction, illustration, design, animation, writing and music composition. After producing two bumper shorts for El Rey Network, Chamberlain took the initiative to produce a pro bono short highlighting the relationship between humans and wolves, and the dangers of our converging environments. The 5-minute short is currently in post. “I realize how lucky I am to even be positioned to ask for funding for a feature-length film. Although Gyrus, itself, is based on showing people that we are all connected on a higher level, I still feel compelled to contribute to the community with smaller projects as well.”
Gyrus will be shot on location at various sites around the beautiful state of New Mexico.
